Cyclone Separators


This series of photographs show a 95% alumina ceramic lined cyclone separator for removing silica sand from a pneumatic conveying system. The internal bore of the cyclone is 1800mm diameter.

The maximum operating temperature of the cyclone separator is around 400 degrees Centigrade and the thickness of the ceramic lining system is 25mm.

Silica sand is a very abrasive mineral that can wear through a 6mm thick steel casing in under 4 weeks. The 95% alumina ceramic lining system lasts for approximately 26 months.

To avoid preferential wear at the tile joints, angled tile joints have been used which allows the sand to skip over the joints.

The ceramic tiles have been bedded on the internal surfaces of the cyclone with a refractory cement and secured in position with special welded attachment system that can not be abraded by the sand until the ceramic lining system has worn away to at least 75% of it's original thickness.
